I am a Professor of Cancer Genomics and Director of the Limerick Digital Cancer Research Centre. I lead a computational biology and bioinformatics research team that applies statistics, data science, AI and computer science to clinical and genomics data to study cancer.
As a leader in the Bioconductor community (an open source software project), I can speak about the power and importance of Open Science. I am lead of the HEA North-South Research Programme's all-island eHealth-Hub for Cancer, which is developing data standards to harmonise real-world health data to drive digital infrastructure and build data intelligence to underpin cancer research.
I graduated from the University of Limerick, received my PhD from the University of Manchester, and worked for most of my career at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard University before returning to Ireland in 2021.
