I am Senior Lecturer in Politics at St Mary's University College Belfast, where I teach human rights, global justice and international ethics.

My research expertise centres on new and emerging technologies, primarily artificial intelligence, and their impact on human rights and democracy. I focus on three areas: these are (1) the human rights implications of biometric surveillance technologies, such as facial recognition technologies; (2) the ethical and political consequences of algorithmic prediction and decision-making; and (3) the ethics and politics of data-driven technologies. I have also researched and written on the ethics of autonomous weapons systems and on drones.

To date, I have published four books, including monographs on feminist thought and on political philosophy (these build on my PhD thesis in the field of contemporary feminist theory); and edited collections on human rights and on international ethics. I am currently working on a new book, which examines human rights in the age of artificial intelligence.

I have a particular interest in publically engaged research and scholarship and am strongly committed to contributing to a wide-ranging and informed public conversation about the impact of new technologies on human rights and democratic politics.
