I am an academic ecologist in the School of Agriculture and Food Science at UCD, interested broadly in biodiversity, ecology and conservation. A lot of my research focuses on insects, and specifically bees and other pollinators. My lab currently has projects looking at pollinators and pesticides, pollinators and climate change, and pollinators and farming (see http://www.stanleyecologylab.org).

I have appeared on EcoEye, and have done a number of radio interviews; for example on RTE 1, the RTE Brainstorm podcast, Today FM, Radio na Gaeltachta and East Coast FM. Tá Gaeilge agam – ach níl mé líofa! I am interested in science communication and public engagement; I have organised Soapbox Science in Dublin and Galway for the last few years which aims to bring female scientists to the streets to discuss their research with the public, and have also participated in Bright Club (using comedy as a medium for communicating science). I also regularly engage with the public through a variety of talks and walks.
