I am a historian, educator and writer specialist in commenting on design, popular culture and social history. My areas of interest are broad but I have a particular interest in how images and objects represent ideas of identity; patterns of tourism and travel; Modernism, commodity culture; and Irish design as cultural heritage. My work is aimed at both popular and specialist audiences.

I have extensive broadcasting experience in both television and radio. This includes as a consultant/curator/presenter for the RTE1 series: Building Ireland (2020), National Treasures (2018) and Designing Ireland (2015). On radio I have contributed to The Business, Countrywide, Inside Culture, Arts Tonight, The History Show, The Marian Finucane Show (all RTE1) and Culture File (Lyric). I am currently a regular contributor to the Dave Fanning Show (2FM), analysing aspects of Irish design and culture as represented in contemporary media.

I am a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) Dublin and sit on the Board of the National Museum of Ireland, chairing its Strategy and Engagement Committee.
