I am General Manager of the Dublin Theatre Festival and a member of the organising committee of Waking The Feminist which looked to address the issue of gender equality in Irish Theatre in 2015/2016 but came to represent much more. I am a Board Member of TYAI - Theatre for Young Audiences Ireland which is the Irish branch of a worldwide organisation for theatre for young audiences, an area I am passionate about. I love theatre and would be very knowledgeable about the Irish theatre sector and the international theatre scene.

The link below is me speaking on BBC Women’s hour on the phenomenon that was ‘Normal People’ and the impact it had on addressing issues such as consent.

I am a Breast Cancer survivor and I currently work in a voluntary capacity as an Advocacy Champion for the Irish Cancer Society. I have appeared on RTÉ news, and in the Sunday Independent for the Irish Cancer Society during my treatment where I urged people to continue to seek medical advice or treatment during the pandemic. I am very comfortable sharing the story of my illness and treatment as a way to encourage women to take up screening opportunities with Breast Check. My own experience was a favourable outcome from treatment as a direct result of early detection. I am also happy to share my experience of treatment to ease the concerns of those receiving a diagnosis and all the fear that brings.

I am a feminist and I feel strongly about the inequality of women’s voices on all broadcast channels and I believe this has been particularly stark in Ireland during the pandemic. As a result of Ireland having a male Taoiseach, male Minister for Health and male CMO at the time of Covid 19, the voices on air across this time have been very male-dominated.

Alongside my career in the arts, I have always been involved in volunteering and activism. During the ‘Repeal the Eighth’ campaign I was horrified to see people protesting outside maternity hospitals with graphic images. As someone who had experienced miscarriage I was very conscious of the distress these images could cause. I formed ‘Angels for Yes’ a group who dressed as angels with large wings who stood in front of these images to block their view. I spoke on Sky television about my reasons for forming ‘Angels for Yes’.

In 2018 and 2019 I travelled to the island of Chios to work with CESRT a voluntary organisation which meets boats arriving from Turkey and assists refugees in accessing supports on the island of Chios. This work while it can be distressing is vital and once you have seen first hand the conditions for refugees in Europe you can never ‘unsee‘ it and you cannot turn a blind eye to their plight. I hope to travel to Chios again to volunteer in the future. I have worked with asylum seekers in Ireland to support them in claims for ‘leave to remain’ and I strongly support the end of direct provision in Ireland which is a system not fit for purpose.

I am a confident public speaker, I am a feminist passionate about theatre and the arts who is equally passionate about social justice. I would welcome any opportunities to add to gender balance on all airwaves.
