Regina Sexton is a food and culinary historian at University College Cork. She is also a food writer, broadcaster and cook, and a graduate of the Ballymaloe Cookery School. She is the Programme Manager of UCC’s Postgraduate Diploma in Irish Food Culture. She lectures in the area of food and culinary culture with the School of History, the Food Industry Training Unit and Adult Continuing Education.
Regina has been researching and publishing in the area of Irish food and culinary history since 1993. Her research interests include food and identity, food and tradition, and the food culture of the Irish country house. In 1999, she won the Jeremy Round Award for the most promising first-time author for A Little History of Irish Food, presented by the British Guild of Food Writers. Following this success, RTÉ commissioned Regina to research, write and present an eight-part television documentary, also called ‘A Little History of Irish Food’. She has worked extensively with domestic and international TV and radio. She has acted as historical food stylist for a number of television productions including TV3’s ‘The Big House’ and RTE’s ‘Lords and Ladles’, a Mind the Gap Films production. Regina also works as food history consultant with Bord Bia, Teagasc, Fáilte Ireland, and the Irish Heritage Trust.
She is a committee member of the Agricultural History Society of Ireland, the Irish Food Writers' Guild, and was on the judging panel for Food & Wine magazine’s annual food and wine awards for 2012-2018. In 2019, she was one of three recipients of the McKennas' Food Person of the Year Award for her work on Irish food culture and heritage.
