Dr Gillian Shorter is a psychologist specializing in alcohol and other drug use, drug and alcohol policy, harm reduction, homelessness, and social justice.


Her research focuses on understanding alcohol and drug use, how to improve health, and reduce harm. This includes evaluating interventions, exploring policy initiatives in health, criminal justice, housing, and public health with a view to harm reduction across Ireland.


Media undertaken on alcohol and other drug use includes how drug consumption rooms, or safe injecting facilities work, community concerns, common myths, and the evidence from around the world. She can also speak on how we can support individuals, families, and the public to reduce their alcohol use, how to support people in sobriety, and how alcohol policy can help. She can speak on homelessness, accessing support, and substance use. Her experience and knowledge span Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.
