I am a historian of Modern Irish History at University College Cork, specialising in the Irish Revolutionary period, commemoration, memory and oral history.


A researcher on the award-winning Atlas of the Irish Revolution, I am currently acting as Academic Editor for the UCC/RTE digital projects on the Irish Revolution and the Great Irish Famine.


A qualified post-primary teacher, I was also Head of Education and Communications at the Heritage Council, administrator of UCC/Irish Examiner online collaboration, theirishrevolution.ie and author of the Atlas of the Irish Revolution Resources for Secondary Schools.


Author of ‘To Speak of Easter Week: Family Memories of the Irish Revolution’, I have contributed articles relating to the Decade of Centenaries to the Irish Examiner, the Irish Times and the Kerryman. I have also provided historical commentary for RTE Nationwide and for RTE and TG4 documentaries ‘Ireland Greatest Loves’ and '74 Days: The Hunger Strike Of Terence MacSwiney'
