Dr Rebecca O'Neill is the Project Coordinator for Wikimedia Community Ireland. A large portion of her work focuses on improving and strengthening the representation of women and content relating to Ireland on Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects. She also focuses on the Irish language Wikipedia - Vicipéid. She holds a PhD in Digital Media which developed a theory of citizen curation, informed by citizen science and citizen journalism. She has published on the importance of the heritage sector to collaborate and partner with Wikimedia projects such as Wikimedia Commons.


Having worked in the museum sector, her personal work centers around the history of museums and women in science. She is the secretary of the National Committee for Commemorative Plaques in Science and Technology, is vice-chair of Women in Technology and Science (WITS), and sits on the committee of the Mary Mulvihill Association.
